VanDusen Botanical Garden is located on 55 beautiful acres in the heart of Vancouver. Open year round, we visited as the fall season started to peek its way in. With the spring and summer bloom past, the gardens take on a new life offering comforting rhythms as the breezes pass over the grasses and remaining vibrant colored flora. The early evening sky was overcast which offered special lighting and a rich contrast in colors.  I highly recommend visiting these gardens, you can easily spend a day here and want to stay for a week. The gardens flow into each other wonderfully as a rich landscape. I will have to return during spring bloom and capture the full landscape.  www.vandusengarden.org

A one mile hike with kayaks and gear through a beautiful forest of western hemlock, western red cedar and Douglas fir. A nose stuffed with moss to stop the bleeding, a sketchy slope down to the glacier river and the fading light of the sun falling behind the mountains, these three needed to get wet before the sun set. Green River, Nairn Falls, near Whistler BC, Canada.

An amazing trip to Whistler, BC, Canada revealed beautiful landscapes, embracing sunrises and sunsets. Surrounded by the wonders of nature it is easy to be inspired and in awe of our existence.

Canada showed last in the Celebration of Light fireworks event. A nice wrapup with beautiful displays by all 3 countries.

Spain had a beautiful showing for event day 2 of the Celebration Of Light in Vancouver. Wonderfully  synced to music, Spain lit up the sky with gorgeous colors and effects, almost brought  a tear to my eye. I hope someone posts a HD video of it. One of the best I’ve experienced. http://www.vancouverfireworks.ca

Not making a habit of posting Instagram photos but this one turned out pretty funky. The original photo has rays of sunshine beaming down  through the clouds (bottom photo). The iphone lags as its adjusting its contrast settings, this was caught in the middle of that adjustment. Anyone else see a large creepy alien/skeletal head as well as multiple smaller faces? I’ve been staring at these photos for too long…here are the other filters.

I am sending these postcards around as ‘hello there’ ads. I rarely take pics with my iphone, and when I do they mostly just sit there doing nothing, for years.  I installed the Instragram App and ran a few pics through it. I’m going to print some non-watermarked 3″x3″ sets of these for myself. If anyone is interested in getting a set (1 of each pic, 35 pics, 3″x3″) let me know, I’ll get extras. Just thought it would be cool to have some fun size random photos laying around, fridge or wherever. Neat little collection. Get sheets printed, add a little love and cut them myself. These photos were taken on a trip through western Canada.

We sat on the beach, watching the soft pastel colors of sunset drift off, dipping our toes in the water. Behind us, a few blocks away, the city burned.

Riots, stabbings, looting, burning police cars, circling helicopters, tear gas.

I felt it was going to happen, I deliberated for many days leading up to game 7 of where I would be.

Should have been in the thick of it? Snapping away?  Newsworthy. A missed opportunity? Riots, stabbings, looting, burning police cars, circling helicopters, tear gas.

Instead, a gentle walk along the beach with friends. Others there, aware. Blankets laid out, feet buried in the evening sand. Warm smiles, warm handshakes, new conversations, new acquaintances. Soft sky blues, yellows caressing the reds and oranges, fading palettes reflecting off the ocean.

We sat on the beach, watching the soft pastel colors of  sunset drift off, dipping our toes in the water.

Behind us, a few blocks away, the city burned.

Relaxing in the warm sun, small wave day. We picked up a cheap disposable camera, grabbed our boards and paddled out to some caves in La Jolla.

Relaxing after a surf session, I wandered around for half an hour taking in the setting sun and surf mojo. I posted a couple of these photos individually earlier, but I wanted to throw them together in a small day series.
